WHEN THE SUN SHINES

A young cancer patient and a charming hospice worker searches for his serenity with death, but is held back by her unresolved past and his impending death.

  • When the Sun Shines is a feature film that narrates the touching tale of Sofus, a young terminally ill patient, who discovers a life beyond the confines of his hospital bed after a serendipitous encounter with Sarah, a young hospice worker with secrets of her own.

The inception of this evocative narrative began when Danish filmmaker Anders Morgenthaler saw the short film of the same name in through that the potential in Frederik Barington. Recognizing its raw emotional pull, Anders approached Frederik with a proposition: to finance the expansion of this poignant tale into a full-fledged feature.

"When the Sun Shines" premiered at CPH Pix and was subsequently honored at international platforms, clinching the Best Foreign Language Film at the Manchester Film Festival and Best Director at the London Film Awards.

Recognizing its universal appeal and storytelling prowess, SF Studios secured its distribution rights for the Nordics, while ReInvent took on the mantle for global audiences.

“The 21-year old feature film debuting director Frederik Barington is a name well worth remembering [...] When the Sun Shines is an impressive film, that in its own subdued way goes straight to the heart. It puts a big fat line under the fact that Danish youth film is still sprawling and ever growing.”
